Have you ever wondered how they were saved in the Old Testament? How could they hold onto the word of God and be saved? Jesus had not yet come. We are sinful because of the fall, disobedience, and self-centeredness to which we have the answer. Why didn’t God come with judgment so many years ago?
God’s grace has always been at work, even in the Old Testament. It was this grace that clothed Adam and Eve in the garden, the first sacrifice provided by God. This was what the generation of that time held onto, calling upon that grace for forgiveness.
God’s grace has been in place since the beginning of time, with the anticipation of Jesus’ coming. The blood of the lambs, slain as a sacrifice, was a mere pointer to Jesus, the only true sacrifice that can be saved. The Old Testament talks of paradise as the place those who died went to UNTIL Jesus died on the cross.
Jesus then went to paradise, gathered those believers, and escorted them into Heaven. This was all made possible only by God’s grace. It wasn’t Jesus being born of a virgin that saved us. It wasn’t the miracles of Jesus that saved. It was His ultimate sacrifice on the cross that saved us, and for this, we are eternally grateful.
It is God’s grace that constantly directs our thoughts toward the cross of Jesus. This grace is what is holding back the return of Jesus. God’s love for His creation is so immense (that is grace) that He wants all to hear the message of salvation. Let us, as Jesus said, “I have to be about my father’s business,” so must we until Jesus returns.
Tell all who will hear the salvation message. They need to hear it; it is their choice to accept it as ours. What a gift given to us by the creator of the world.
