Have you ever gone into a room and forgotten why or what you wanted to do? We can so easily be distracted. Some people say it is a “senior moment,” but I don’t think it is just a senior thing. How about when you are at church or meeting with friends? While they are talking, you suddenly discover your mind is not listening. I know I am not the only one these things happen. You do your best to be present, but you hear or see something outside of what you are doing that distracts you. Those “squirrel” thoughts or “shinney” things distract us.
Distractions are a hot topic these days, especially when it comes to driving. It’s a real issue that we need to address. We must learn to be stronger than these distractions and stay present. The world can be overwhelming, and getting caught up in our thoughts or worries only adds to the chaos. The key is to focus on what you’re doing in the present moment, and not let your mind wander.
Mark 4:19 states, “And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.” It is the shiny thing.
Let’s not forget, the battle against distractions is a spiritual one. It’s about keeping our minds focused on the task at hand, but more importantly, it’s about how we fight this battle. Ephesians 6:16 reminds us that we have the shield of faith, a powerful tool to extinguish all the arrows of the enemy. And make no mistake, distractions are indeed arrows of the enemy.
How BIG is your shield? Do you ponder the word of GOD? This is an excellent place to start. Put all distractions aside and allow the Word of GOD to protect your mind and soul from the world’s distractions.
IN HIM
