When I was asked to become a pastor, I really wanted to know that is where God had called me. In prayer, I asked God to confirm it was from Him. I told no one of my questions before the Lord. Then, conversing with one of the ladies in the house, she said, “When I get married, I want you to do the ceremony.” So, there you go—an abridged version of how I was called.
Here are a few Bible stories of people asking for confirmation from the Lord and one who went against what God told him yet did it anyway.
In Judges 6:12, Gideon is told “The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” When called to battle, Gideon wanted confirmation that Israel would be saved by his hand. He asked for a sign not once but twice. Judges 6:36-40.
Then there is Jonah. There is so much of his story in ours. When we don’t do what we know God wants us to, and when we repent, we are put back where it all started.
Then there is Ester, who is faced with having to tell her husband she is a Jew and about to be killed. On top of that, she was not called to the inner court and could have been killed upon entering. She called fellow Jews to prayer and fasting and then did what needed to be done.
These all did what God needed them to do. Each had their way to get there. The question is, what is God calling you to do? Afraid to step out (we all are)?
The quote I dance for an audience of one. So, I do what I do unto the Lord no matter what the world may say. Colossians 3:23-24
