Fear of the Lord

Fear of the Lord: this statement is something I have wondered about for years. However, it is mainly talked about in the Old Testament. What does it mean? How do I do this? Is the “fire and brimstone” sermons that make us fear Him? Yet we are to love Him.

Proverbs 9:10 it is the beginning of wisdom. Deuteronomy 5:29 KJV God is telling Moses “O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!”

Did you see in the Deuteronomy verse there is a promise attached? But again, what does this “fear” look like?

I am in a small group bible study on “Foundations” by John Bevere. I highly recommend it. All his resources are accessible online at https://messengerx.com. This week in Foundations, we are studying Repentance, and what John said at the end of the video helped so much with this question.

An example of “Fear of the Lord” told me it is like you are speeding and know you are pushing the limits and have a fear of seeing those flashing lights in your rearview mirror. This didn’t make any sense to me as to why I would want to push the limits with God’s protection and love.

The statement John said was this: “Fear of God is being terrified to be away from Him.” I will let you ponder this statement as I do.
