As I restarted my computer this morning, my antivirus scan came up.
An interesting thought is if I am so protective of my computer to ensure the antivirus scan is up to date and does its job. If a virus gets into our computer, we may try to fix it ourselves, but more often than not, it takes an expert to clean up our mess.
How often do we scan our minds and hearts to see if the enemy has suggested or if we allowed some malware or virus in? Luke 6:45 states, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”
So when my thoughts travel down a road of negativity, hate, or anger, I scan my life to see what has been put into my heart and mind. Usually, I find out I have spent way too much time listening to the world (watching TV), and distractions have pulled me away from my time with God (computer gaming). Sometimes, I get stuck and need to talk heart-to-head and ask God what the distraction is. See, he knows best what our thoughts are.
As we are heading into a new year, may we all (myself included) allow God to scan over our hearts and minds. Then, ask Him how to change this. He is gracious in showing us little bits at a time, not the whole problem.
May you find some quiet time with God.
